illegal dance party to save McMillan Park

Dancing is resistance! The hottest party that happened this weekend was definitely an illegal dance party in an underground cavern at McMillan Park, a historic park that Washington DC residents are fighting to save from development and gentrification. The park hosts fascinating caverns, once used to store water for the city, and beautiful green lawns overhead. Of course, it is the kind of beautiful property that developers long to destroy, so that they can build more boring condos on it. Learn more via Adams Morgan for Reasonable Development.

I was honored to be there and dance for justice. That’s me in the mask, by the way. Everyone seemed to know who I actually was. The mask didn’t fool anyone!

After about an hour, the police showed up and threatened to arrest everyone. Thanks to some great negotiating by level-headed organizers, we were allowed to pack up our equipment and leave.
